YFC Director Position in Qunite West, ON


Quinte YFC / Youth Unlimited - Full Time Position Available

Position available for Quinte YFC / Youth Unlimited Area Director in Quinte West, Ontario beginning Winter of 2013.  Starting date is flexible.  Quinte West area is located just less than 2 hours east of Toronto, Ontario Canada.  It comprises the cities of Trenton, Frankford and Stirling, as well as many other smaller communities in between.  It is known for the Trent River waterway, the Canadian Forces base (Air force) and summer tourism including fishing in the Bay of Quinte and lake Ontario beaches. 

Currently Quinte YFC has 5 staff, 1 international volunteer and 1 new staff fundraising to start.  Our ministry staff focus is on strong leadership skills and a common passion for relational evangelism.  Our goal is to give every young person the opportunity to make an informed decision to become a follower of Jesus Christ and to be welcomed into a local church.

Job Description:
The Quinte West ministry director can be described as a high school campus youth pastor.  Focused around the two public high schools, Bayside and Trenton High, which are open to YFC ministry presence and programs for the past  11 years.  The priority for the director for this ministry is youth evangelism, relationship building with youth, community development and leadership development. 

Job description details:
·         This is a full time position
·         Build, develop and oversee an outreach ministry to youth following 8 Relational Ministry Activities (RMA’s)
·         To build relationships with youth, volunteers, parents, pastors, youth leaders, school and community leaders
·         Give leadership to a youth network and assist local church youth ministries related issues & events
·         Identify, recruit and develop volunteers for ministry and behind the scenes work.
·         Work with the other area Youth Unlimited staff in shared events. This may include trips, retreats, camps, service (or mission) trips and volunteer development.
·         To set and meet ministry, budget & fundraising goals with help from a local steering committee
·         Starting salary is $30,000 (negotiable according to experience). Cost of housing very affordable.
·         Build a sustainable outreach ministry to middle school students (gr.6-8)
·         Candidate will be enrolled in an extensive two year National Training program. Expenses covered.
·         Candidate will attend the National and Regional YFC / Youth Unlimited Conferences.  Expenses covered.

Candidate must possess:
·         Exhibit good organizational, planning, teaching and communication skills, both written and verbal
·         Demonstrate a heart for relational ministry, knowledge of the Bible and a passion for youth to know Christ.
·         Proven track record in providing leadership to a team of people, good  Being self-directed
·         Ability to fundraise for the ministry budget / Looking for a long term ministry position
·         Must possess a University or College Degree (or in the process of completing it)

Job Description Summary:
Under the direction of the Manager of Settlement and Family Support you will assist refugee and immigrant students and their families in their transition to a new culture by developing, organizing and facilitating a variety of activities for youth. These positions require flexible hours (night and weekends) a diverse cultural background is an asset.


Candidates under consideration will be required to participate in an assessment process consisting of any/all of the following: interview, abilities test, case study and/or presentation.

Job Status: Term part -time (may become permanent)

Salary Range: $18.62 to $23.56

Hours of Work 25 hrs/week or 100/hrs per 4 week averaging period

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Extensive knowledge of the immigrant/refugee experience and settlement process.
Fluent and literate in English; able to read and interpret program regulations and guidelines and write clearly and effectively.
Proven ability to conduct interviews, gather information, make assessments, identify problems, plan and implement strategies to redress situation.
Good knowledge of the Saskatoon school system and collateral agencies such as other service educational, health and social service providers.
Demonstrated ability to self-direct work with very little oversight; manage own work load and time on a flexible work schedule.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and other service providers, establish effective working relationships between community partners.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with clients while setting appropriate boundaries and acting as a role model.
Knows privacy legislation, able to maintain confidentiality, good judgment.
Demonstrated effective listening skills.
Basic knowledge of counselling theories and techniques and a demonstrated ability to apply them in the practice of paraprofessional counselling.
Functional computer skills including keyboard skills, word processing and data base applications.

Education and Experience
University degree in the social work, education, Kinesiology, or related field and, one year of work experience working with school age children/family counselling services, OR
Graduate of post secondary program (2 year minimum) in the social sciences, or education, or Kinesiology, and, two years work experience working with school age children/family counselling services.
Experience working in a school setting with children, youth, their parents and teachers and school administrators or sport camp coordination.
Training in Adlerian counselling, or life skills counselling not mandatory but an asset.

Required Licenses and/or Certificates
Canadian Police Information Center (CPIC) certification including Vulnerable Sector Search - no criminal record (Done within last 3 months)

Holds a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle for
